B-Rated Movie heaven
Crown International Pictures is primarily known for low budget flicks, grindhouse cinema, biker films, exploitation films, and B-movie drive in fare. This collection is a showcase of what CIP was all about,This 12 film collection has a little bit of every type of B fare that you would see in a drive from the 60's thru the 90's. some star vehicles and some with unknowns. What makes this collection entertaining is its a mish-mash of everything.Three of the best (and my favorites) on this collection are the Kidnapping of the President, Deathrow Gameshow and Road to Nashville. President has an all star cast (Hal Holbrook, William Shatner, Ava Gardner and Van Johnson) in a cat and mouse poltical thriller. Gameshow is a satire in a similar vein to ]. Nashville is an all star country concert with...

Donald Pleasance, Peter Cushing, Jay North, Robert Reed and more are featured in this bone-chilling, blood-curdling, 12-film experience in cult terror! Includes The Babysitter (1969), Bloodlust (1959), Carnival of Crime (1962), The Crater Lake Monster (1977), The Creeping Terror (1964), Escape from Hell's Island (1963), Fleshburn (1984), The Hearse (1980), Horror High (1974), Land of the Minotaur (1976), Lurkers (1988) and The Teacher (1974). 3 DVDs. Color-b&w/17 hrs., 2 min/NR/fullscreen. Top to learn more

Some Good Stuff Here
This is a great set Horror High, the Crater Lake Monster, Creeping Terror, Land of the Minotaur are all a lot of fun and the whole set is less than the price of any one of these campy classics individually. The prints are all complete and of a good watchable quality, I'm glad I added this to my collection even though I already had several of the movies on other sets, for me Horror High and the Crater Lake Monster alone are worth the price of admission here, and the rest is sweet retro gravy on my cheesy entrée.

Now THIS is exploitation!
Until I saw THE BABYSITTER, I was never sure if exploitation films, whatever they may be, were worth the time. But this little slice of depravity has made me a believer--a 1969 relic that might belong to some pre-code era all its own, just before both "softcore" and American indie cinema cleaned things up a bit for mass consumption. THE BABYSITTER has provocative and offensive (under-age) nudie scenes of the most heralded sort. It has considerable violence, one sequence of which occurs an hour into the film and rivals the verite shock of the murder scenes in LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (which came out 5 years later). There are a number of young women who cannot seem to keep their shirts on, whether by the pool or in the sauna, in the woods or in the car, all of whom are unvarnished and attractive. Irrelevant subplots and implausible plot twists involving lesbians and bikers abound, but meanwhile, the principals Patricia Wymer (as The Babysitter) and George E. Russell (as the...

Product Description

From the balletic intensity of Bruce Lee to the gravity-defying swordplay of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, the Chinese Martial Arts film has captured audiences' imaginations around the world, while absorbing influences ranging from Beijing Opera to computer games. Its global impact can be seen in the Hollywood crossover of stars like Jackie Chan and Hong Kong-influenced films like The Matrix. In this wide-ranging study, Leon Hunt looks at the mythic allure of the Shaolin Temple, the 'Clones' of Bruce Lee, gender-bending swordswomen, and the knockabout comedy of Sammo Hung, bringing new insights to a hugely popular and yet critically neglected genre. In addition, he considers the impact of new technologies on a genre focused on physical performance, from the 'wire fu' of Jet Li to the digital 'stars' of console games like Tekken. Films discussed include both popular and cult classics like Game of Death, Fist of Legend, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin and Drunken Master.

When only a bad film will satisfy
'Savage Cinema' is a collection of low budget, B grade films - mostly from the now defunct Crown International Pictures company - several of which are no longer available to purchase new, or even in DVD, except in this or in one of several other packages offered by Mill Creek Entertainment. Technically, the films vary in quality - I'm sure the least amount of preservation went in to the production of the packaging as possible. I'm not familiar with the procedure of transferring film stock onto DVD, but the image that shows up on my screen looks exactly like a projected film, often accompanied by the scratches, skips and cigarette burns you might notice at the drive-in.And that's exactly what these films are - cheap films to make a quick buck off of the kids more interested in the 'getting to know you social arena' of the family sedan's back seat. Though I have no need for that sort of pretense anymore, these films still have a certain charm - though like anything else,...

the CROWN INTERNATIONAL library is back in print
I happened across this when Amazon recommended it for me and i was thrilled. after BCI/Eclipse closed its doors i was afraid it was going to be impossible to track down some of the titles i still wanted and didn't get. then came the SAVAGE CINEMA 12 pack via Mill Creek. consisting of off the wall biker movies, car racing movies and some other movies like Death Machines. This collection has some of the harder to find titles and the transfers are new and widescreen with the exception of "Sidehackers" which is the original 1.33:1 pan and scan transfer. (this appears to be the same version used on MST3K) for how many movies are in this set, the quality of the movies presentation and the overall price you can't go wrong... especially if you enjoy 60's and 70's flicks that at times are unintentionally funny.

Death Riders
I liked most, but not all of the movies in this set. I really liked the Death Riders documentary a lot. It alone was worth the price I paid for the set. I've gotten other sets with large collections of movies like this but many of those other sets were disappointing. This one has some good stuff on it.

BUY Savage Cinema: 12 Movie Collection

Rare Cult Cinema

I enjoy spy- and war movies, I adore silly movies about heads stored in jars and I love old b-movies like Manos, Ed Wood flicks and similar low budget junk. But some spies discover the treacherous plan and put a stop to it.  They Saved Hitler’s Brain is probably one of the worst movies ever made. It is afterall one of those “Disembodied Head Movies” from the 60′s. The film is about a Nazi scientist who preserves Hitler’s brain and head (why not his whole body.

At the same time, there’s another mad killer on the loose who is imitating Lester’s murders and, for some reason, trying to trick Lester into a trap by leaving evidence that points to him.  Brett Halsey (best known for Today We Kill Tomorrow We Die) plays Lester, and he is one of the reasons why the film works so well. But Halsey is such a likeable actor, so there is a scary charm about the playful way he plays Lester. Already five minutes into the film Lester eats a steak made from a woman’s rump. This ultra-gory horror flick is one of Lucio Fulci’s later films from the 80′s. ) Not a great Lucio Fulci film, a small and flawed one, but still pretty good. So Lucio Fulci’s violent thriller is in many ways like a mean spirited black comedy.

The film is about a tree house club of kids who call themselves The Monster Squad (much like The Goonies or teenage Ghostbusters – the tagline is “You know who to call when you have ghosts, but who do you call when you have monsters.  The film is a brilliant homage to the Universal monster movies from the good, old days, and Stan Winston’s creature designs are terrific. Oh hell yeah, five of the best movie monsters in history are all in this film together.

The film is directed by William Dear – who later made more family friendly films like Harry & the Hendersons and Teen Agent, and it’s a very good biker/action/rape-revenge film indeed. This unbelievable 70′s biker flick has become an international motorcycle cult favorite, and as a fan of grindhouse and exploitation, I’m a bit disappointed in myself for not having seen it until recently. The budget is low, the pacing is a bit poor at times, but the film has that gritty 70′s cinematography and a realistic look where being outdated actually helps to make it better, and the actors are pretty solid – many of them are actually real... It is definitely the biker movie that has made the greatest impression on me. However, I think you’ll love this film whether you have a liking for motorcycles or not. The film takes place in a small bible town where two young lovers decide to roll around in the hay in a barn located nearby a group of fun-loving, long-bearded bikers called the Scorpions (who sometimes stop to help elderly folks with flat tires).
